The ex-Netherlands global, who began his career in Amsterdam, is surprised to have seen a gifted ahead concur that a change to Stamford Bridge.
Hakim Ziyech has made a mistake in agreeing to join with Chelsea, says Andy van der Meyde, together with the Blues not thought of as a”top team” in the form of Bayern Munich.
German giants were believed to be casting admiring glances from the Ajax winger’s leadership before it was disclosed that a move to Stamford Bridge is to be produced.
Ziyech will see out the rest of the 2019-20 effort in the Netherlands before making a $40 million (#33m/$43m) change to England.
Given his impressive haul of goals and assists at Ajax, the 26-year-old is being tipped to have a positive impact in the Premier League.
Van der Meyde, however, has suggested that the Morocco global must have held out for a more”secure” club than Chelsea and one that can match his dream instantly.
The former Ajax star, who spent time in British football with Everton, told VTBL: “It is time for him to depart. Hakim is ready, he’s got to take another step.
“The Eredivise is a training celebration for Ziyech. It is logical that he is looking to get a new team. You need that as a top athlete.
“I just didn’t expect him to go to Chelsea. I don’t think it is a leading team nor a secure club. I’d have expected Bayern Munich or something of that dimension.
“Obviously, it might be the hierarchy under below Liverpool changes if Manchester City are punished and maybe Chelsea will benefit from it and they’ll play for the prizes, but then again, if they perform, I don’t think:’Wow, I will stay at home and watch’.”
Ziyech will have spent the best part of four seasons with Ajax when the time comes to accept a new challenge.
He’s enrolled 47 goals for the Dutch giants up to now, across 159 appearances.
It’s, however, his imagination that has brought him to Chelsea’s focus, with Frank Lampard searching for increased end product in his group.
Ziyech has revealed himself to be among the most creative talents in European soccer.
He’s 21 assists to his name in the present campaign, with 13 of those coming from the Eredivisie for an Ajax side trying to defend their title.
