Linked with a move away from the Eredivisie, the Cameroon goalkeeper said he has seen enough of the Dutch league and is ready for a bigger challenge.
Andre Onana affirmed he wanted to leave Ajax, stating he was prepared “to take a measure” amid connections with a move to Barcelona.
Onana, 24, has starred during the past four seasons with the Eredivisie giants, where he came from Barca in 2015.
The Cameroon goalkeeper has attracted attention from across Europe, with Barcelona, Chelsea, and Tottenham one of the clubs linked with a move for the shot-stopper.
Onana, who is contracted at Ajax before 2022, stated he was ready to make a move.
“Don’t get me wrong, I am very satisfied with Ajax and I am quite thankful to the club,” he told AD on Tuesday.
“It was five great years here, but now my time has come to have a step. We made that appointment last year.
“I don’t yet know what’s going to happen, but my ambitions and arrangements are apparent.”
Earlier this month, Onana disclosed Barca felt like’home’ and he’d be amenable to a Camp Nou return.
“As I said earlier, Barca is my property. If I must return, I’ll return. But today we’re still far from it.”
“I just look after the ball game, what happens at the stadium. The rest are my representatives who handle.”
Onana started out his career at youth level with Barcelona in 2010 before going to Ajax in 2014 where he’s been the mainstay since the 2016-17 year, playing 178 occasions in all contests and maintaining 74 clean sheets.
A potential transfer to Chelsea would visit Onana combine Ajax team-mate Hakim Ziyech at Stamford Bridge, with the Moroccan winger completing his transfer to the Blues as soon as the transfer window opens.
Goal affirmed in March the Ziyech desired his friend Onana to accompany him to London and resist the progress of Barca and Tottenham.
