The Ajax central defensive midfielder hopes to make his mark at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League someday.
Ajax and Mexico midfielder Edson Alvarez has stated his admiration for Manchester City, showing that he hopes to play for the club following the Citizens since childhood.
The 22-year-old midfielder joined Ajax from Club America last summer and was a semi-regular fixture to its Dutch giants this season.
Alvarez has made 23 entire looks for Ajax this year, including eight European play, while scoring a pair of goals.
Widely tipped for an integral piece of Mexico’s long run, Alvarez confessed he has his eyes set on England and the Etihad in particular.
“I’ve been after that club since childhood and I think it’s a very nice club, I’m a fan. So, if I had to pick I would love to play for City.”
He was a part of the team that won the Gold Cup in 2019 while also being called to Concacaf’s Best XI in 2018.
Before joining Ajax, Alvarez won a Liga MX and Copa MX name with America after coming through the club’s youth system. His first time in Amsterdam, though, was jaded by the outbreak of the coronavirus with leagues all around the world stopped as a result of the pandemic.
After originally being separated from household upon moving into the Netherlands, Alvarez’s loved ones are now in Amsterdam, and he’s used the time away in the sport to spend some time with his daughter.
“Today I can use the time to be together with my family,” he explained. “My daughter is doing well, she’s healthy and that’s definitely the most crucial thing. It is wonderful to see how she develops and learns new things daily. That’s then it’s great that I can now see that each day.”
